Tautavel

The small, quiet town in the Corbières is an important centre for wine growing. This is where following AOC wines are produced: Côtes-du-Roussillon, Côtes-du-Roussillon-Villages, Muscat-de-Rivesaltes.

This town is above all known because of the nearby Caune de l'Arago grotto. This is where the so far eldest residues of a European human being have been found which is said to have lived 450,000 years ago.
For this reason, a museum of early history was established in 1975.
This museum is said to be one of the best in this field.
You can find information on the website: www.tautavel.com
Moreover, you will find in Tautavel:

- Residues of a chateau of the 13th century

- Church St-Genis of the 17th century

- Chapel Saintes-Puelles
